Surface Methods NDT Inspections

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)

Magnetic particle inspection is a non-destructive test method for detection of surface and near surface discontinuities.

This method is comparatively faster and relatively economical and very sensitive, therefore it is a common, widely used inspection.

Magnetic particle inspections can be conducted using either colour contrast or fluorescent particle types.

This inspection cannot be used for non-ferrous materials and non-magnetic ferrous materials.

Dye Penetrant Testing (PT)

Dye penetrant inspection is an economical and widely used non-destructive test method to detect surface breaking discontinuities in all non porous materials.

This inspection is generally used as a substitute for magnetic particle inspection and can be conducted using either colour contrast or fluorescent particle types.

The material or test items require thorough cleaning before a dye penetrant inspection can be performed.
